The season is flying by, but we couldn’t let it pass without honoring our Grandpa May, who celebrated his 90th birthday in late summer. He is a familiar and beloved face at the market, where you’re likely to find him handing out apples and greeting guests.
Grandpa May (also known as Carl, but we prefer “Grandpa”) grew up in West Michigan. He served in the Army during World War II, and got his start in dairy farming before becoming a fruit grower. He grew apples and peaches, as well as cherries. He married Eleanor (better known as Grandma!) and together they raised five children. They have 13 grandkids and 7 great-grandchildren, with another two (twin girls) due soon. Our family and the market would not be the same without him. Thank you Grandpa… we love you!
